The mission of The UPG – QC is to provide a conduit for engagement of social consciousness & community empowerment, foster progressive ideas & thought, facilitate in the development, recruitment & retainment of talent & strengthen the presence of diversity in the community.
Urban Professionals Group of the Quad Cities (UPG-QC)
provides a valuable and much needed social outlet for professionals in the
Quad Cities and surrounding cities of Iowa and western Illinois. A core tenet
of the organization is to facilitate corporate networking and socializing
opportunities for urban professionals of Iowa and Illinois. The development
of the Group derived from a vision to enhance the business and social development
of the Quad Cities’ urban professionals by providing unique forums geared
towards cultural and intellectual enrichment as well as networking and socializing.
UPG-QC strives to offer at a minimum these operational standards and core
components:
1. Quality Networking. Urban Professionals Group of the Quad Cities boasts
a superb track record of establishing relationships and building upon old
and new friendships. Our professional clientele is the best in the region
when it comes to maturity, class and style.
2. Rotating Venue. Urban Professionals Group of the Quad Cities is committed
to exposing young urban professionals to various areas, venues and attractions
in both Iowa and Illinois, many of which may be underutilized, especially
by minority professionals.
3. Alternating Format. Changing up the entertainment and networking vehicle
each month is one of the keys to keeping the events fresh, as it ensures continual
attendance and an expanding clientele. Some past and future formats include:
live concerts, guest speakers, financial empowerment seminars, poetry readings,
art displays and fashion exhibits.
4. Promote minority businesses and job placement. Our goal is to serve as
a link between minority business owners and the urban professional community
in order to keep financial capital within the community. We also want to be
a key player in assisting larger corporations in their efforts to attract
and retain young minority professionals therefore enabling continual growth
in the Quad Cities.
5. Community Service. The community service goal is to support those organizations
and institutions within the state that are focused on exposing Quad Cities
youth to higher education and entrepreneurial opportunities.
